Growing up in Austria, Buchner first worked as a carpenter at the age of 12. As she advanced through the construction industry, she witnessed jobsite safety risks, as well as a jobsite fatality.  

While working on her PhD, Buchner identified an opportunity within the more than $13 trillion construction industry to better manage project data and how construction teams access and interact with that data. She saw the opportunity to more efficiently manage complex challenges that result in costly delays, rework and safety risks.

In 2021 she founded Trunk Tools, which focuses on building AI solutions for general contractors, owners and builders. Its technology organizes the 85% of construction data that is unstructured (i.e. documents and drawings) to make them instantly accessible; deploys agents to automate repetitive tasks; and flags issues and discrepancies before they cause delays and rework — all enabling the industry to focus on building, not document hunting.

In July, the company raised a $40 million Series B round to further scale its AI solutions and help to address the construction industry's deeply rooted productivity losses, which exceed $1 trillion annually.
