Tianbing Qian, Chief Information Officer Genesee & Wyoming.

Dr. Tianbing Qian (TQ) is Chief Information Officer at Genesee & Wyoming Inc, the largest short-line railroad operator in US with over 120 railroads in US and Europe. As a member of company's senior leadership team, TQ is responsible for information technology and leads the overall digital transformation efforts.

Prior to joining G&W, TQ was SVP and Chief Digital Information Officer from 2015-2019 at Ports America, the largest maritime terminal operator in US where TQ & his team modernized end-to-end IT platforms, leveraged technology and analytics to enable operational and margin improvement, launched digitized services for improved customer experience with new revenue streams, and drove direct IT revenue generation with innovative, market leading IT products. Before that, TQ spent eighteen years in semiconductor and electronics contract manufacturing industries, where his teams enabled and optimized end-to-end product and supply chains for numerous blue-chip companies using technology and analytics across a wide range of industries, including enterprise computing, aerospace, health tech, and consumer electronics.

TQ is passionate about the integrated use of IT automation, advanced analytics, and business model innovation to enhance company's financial performance and shareholder values. He has created enterprise-wide analytics teams that used optimization and machine learning to turn massive data into value-added insights, and helped companies win numerous customer and industry recognitions, including five CIO 100 awards with 3 multi-billion dollars companies.

TQ holds a Ph.D. in Operations Management and an M.S. in Computer Sciences, both from The University of Iowa. He also holds a M.S. in System Engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University and a B.S. in Control Engineering from Huazhong University of Sciences & Technology. He speaks frequently at industry conferences and is active in university collaboration.
