Two of the most prominent business rewards credit cards are The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and the Capital One Venture X Business Credit Card. Both premium cards offer valuable benefits that enhance your travel experience and help offset their annual fees.
Cardholders enjoy perks such as airport lounge access, travel credits and flexible rewards. However, each card has a different approach to delivering value. The Amex Business Platinum Card, which has an annual fee of $895, is designed for high spenders who can effectively utilize multiple statement credits.
In contrast, the Venture X Business Card, with a $395 annual fee, offers a simpler value proposition, with an uncomplicated earning structure and generous policies on guest access to airport lounges. It's important to note that these guest privileges are set to change significantly.
Let’s take a closer look at these two business cards to help you determine which one belongs in your wallet.
The Business Platinum Card from American Express is a premium business card loaded with statement credit offers for business services and travel that help justify its steep annual fee.

Amex Business Platinum vs. Capital One Venture X Business
Annual fees
The annual fee difference is substantial: $895 for the Amex Business Platinum versus $395 for the Venture X Business. That's a $500 gap that matters, especially when you're running a business and watching expenses.
However, annual fees only tell part of the story. Both cards offer credits and perks that can help offset these costs; you'll just have to decide which benefits you'll actually use.
Winner: Capital One Venture X Business
Welcome bonuses
The Venture X Business is currently offering a hard-to-ignore welcome bonus. With it, you can earn 150,000 bonus miles once you spend $30,000 in the first 3 months from account opening
The Amex Business Platinum offers as high as 300,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $20,000 in eligible purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months of Membership. Welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer. Amex Membership Rewards® points are typically valued at 2 cents each toward travel.
While the Amex Business Platinum's bonus has a lower spending requirement, you'll get more value. But you'll have to meet the mammoth $150,000 spending threshold to earn the full bonus.
Winner: Amex Business Platinum
Earning rewards
The Amex Business Platinum earns American Express Membership Rewards® points at the following rates:
- 5X points on flights and prepaid hotels booked on AmexTravel.com
- 2X points on purchases at U.S. construction material and hardware suppliers, electronic goods retailers and software and cloud system providers and shipping providers, as well as on each eligible purchase of $5,000 or more (up to $2 million of these purchases per calendar year); purchases eligible for multiple additional point bonuses will only receive the highest eligible bonus
- 1X points on other eligible purchases
The Amex Business Platinum is a strong choice if you make large purchases or frequently book travel through Amex Travel. The 2X rate on business categories like shipping and software is valuable for many small businesses.
The Capital One Venture X Business has a straightforward rewards structure, earning:
- 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel
- 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Business Travel
- 2X miles on all other purchases
The Venture X Business keeps things refreshingly simple: You earn at least 2X miles on everything, everywhere. There's no need to track bonus categories or worry about spending caps. This simplicity is appealing if you want to earn rewards without overthinking every purchase.
Both cards provide attractive earning structures, but the Venture X Business earns 2X miles everywhere, plus the same or better rates when booking through the card issuer's travel portal.
Winner: Capital One Venture X Business

The Capital One Venture X Business lets you transfer miles to loyalty programs such as British Airways, Flying Blue (Air France-KLM) and Turkish Airlines. Benefits
Travel credits
The Venture X Business offers a straightforward $300 annual travel credit that automatically applies to purchases made through Capital One Business Travel. This credit is easy to use and understand.
The Amex Business Platinum takes a more complicated approach with a $200 airline fee credit that only covers incidental fees (like checked bags and seat selections) with one qualifying airline you select annually. It won't typically cover ticket purchases, which limits its usefulness.
Additionally, the Amex Business Platinum offers up to $600 in statement credits for prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings through Amex Travel (up to $300 semiannually; The Hotel Collection requires a minimum two-night stay). You can also earn up to $200 in Hilton credits per year (up to $50 back per quarter; Hilton for Business membership required; benefit enrollment required; Gift cards are not an eligible purchase). While valuable for luxury hotels and Hilton stays, these benefits require more planning and are more restrictive.
Although the Capital One Venture X Business offers a smaller travel credit, it is far easier to use and applies to a broader range of travel.
Winner: Capital One Venture X Business
Airport lounge access
This is where things get interesting — and where the Venture X Business loses some of its edge.
The Amex Business Platinum offers extensive lounge access through the American Express Global Lounge Collection, including:
- Centurion Lounges
- Delta Sky Clubs (10 visits annually when flying Delta or unlimited with $75,000 in annual spending)
- Priority Pass lounges
- Plaza Premium lounges
- Escape Lounges
- Lufthansa lounges
However, complimentary guest access at Centurion Lounges isn't automatic. Instead, you need to spend $75,000 per calendar year to bring two complimentary guests.
The Venture X Business currently offers access to:
- Capital One Lounges
- Capital One Landings (smaller lounges for shorter waits)
- Priority Pass™ lounges
- Two complimentary guests at all these lounges
Important lounge access changes coming February 2026
Starting February 1, 2026, the Venture X Business is implementing significant changes to its lounge guest policies:
For Capital One Lounges and Landings:
- Guests will no longer receive complimentary access
- Guests will cost $45 per visit ($25 for guests 17 and under; children under two are free)
- Exception: Primary cardholders who spend $75,000 or more on their card in a calendar year can bring up to two complimentary guests to Capital One Lounges and one guest to Capital One Landings; spending in 2025 counts toward 2026 benefits, and complimentary access is valid for the calendar year you hit the threshold plus the following year
For Priority Pass lounges:
- Venture X Business primary cardholders will continue to receive complimentary access for two guests
- Additional guests beyond two will cost $35 per guest per visit
For additional cardholders (employee cards):
- Previously, Venture X Business didn't offer lounge access for additional cardholders at all
- Now, primary cardholders can add lounge access for employee cards by paying $125 annually per card
- Those who pay the fee get access to Capital One Lounges, Landings and Priority Pass lounges
- These eligible additional cardholders also receive complimentary access for two guests at Priority Pass lounges
The upcoming changes to the Venture X Business card diminish its value, especially for those who frequently travel with family or colleagues. The Amex Business Platinum has an advantage in lounge quantity and quality.
Winner: Amex Business Platinum
Statement credits and perks
The Amex Business Platinum is loaded with statement credits, though using them all requires effort:
- Up to $360 in Indeed credits (up to $90 per quarter; enrollment required)
- Up to $209 in CLEAR+ credits annually for an auto-renewing membership
- Up to $150 in Dell statement credits annually, plus an additional $1,000 credit after spending $5,000+ with Dell per calendar year (enrollment required)
- Up to $250 in Adobe statement credits after spending $600+ annually (enrollment required)
- Up to $120 in wireless credits annually (enrollment required)
- Receive either a statement credit every four years after you apply for Global Entry ($120) or a statement credit every 4.5 years after you apply for a five-year membership for TSA PreCheck® (up to $85 through a TSA PreCheck official enrollment provider) and pay the application fee with your Business Platinum Card®
The card also provides Hilton Honors Gold and Marriott Bonvoy Gold elite status, plus The Leading Hotels of the World Leaders Club Sterling status.
For businesses that can use Indeed, Dell, Adobe and wireless services credits, these perks add up to over $1,000 in annual value. But if you don't need these services, they're worthless to you. For larger businesses, after spending $250,000+ on eligible purchases in a calendar year, you'll receive:
- Up to $1,200 in statement credits for flights booked through AmexTravel.com
- Up to $2,400 in statement credits for Amex One AP monthly fees (Amex's account payable service)
The Venture X Business keeps things simpler with fewer but more universally useful benefits:
- 10,000 anniversary bonus miles (worth $100 in travel)
- Up to $120 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credits every four years
- Access to Capital One's Premier Collection (luxury hotel booking with elite-like perks including room upgrades, daily breakfast credits, late checkout and more)
- Access to Capital One's Lifestyle Collection hotels
Winner: Amex Business Platinum (if you can use them)
Travel protections
Both cards offer comprehensive travel insurance benefits. The Amex Business Platinum provides trip cancellation and interruption coverage, trip delay, baggage insurance and secondary rental car coverage.*
The Venture X Business offers similar protections, including trip cancellation/interruption insurance, lost luggage reimbursement, rental car collision damage coverage, travel accident insurance and extended warranty protection.
These benefits are comparable, and both cards offer solid protection for business travelers.
Winner: Tie
*Eligibility and Benefit level varies by Card. Terms, Conditions and Limitations Apply. Please visit americanexpress.com/benefitsguide for more details. Underwritten by AMEX Assurance Company. Car Rental Loss or Damage Coverage is offered through American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc.
Additional cardholder fees
The Venture X Business allows you to add free employee cards with no additional cost. You can set individual spending limits and pool all rewards into your account. Starting in February 2026, you can opt to add lounge access to employee cards for $125 per card annually.
The Amex Business Platinum charges $400 per Employee Business Platinum Card® annually (up from $350). These cardholders get access to some of the primary card's benefits. You can also add Employee Business Expense Cards for no annual fee.
Winner: Capital One Venture X Business
Which should you get?
Both the Amex Business Platinum and Capital One Venture X Business are excellent premium business cards, but they cater to different needs. At the end of the day, the best card depends on your business spending patterns and which perks you'll actually use.
Choose the Amex Business Platinum if:
- You're a frequent flyer who values premium lounge access
- Can use multiple niche statement credits
- Want complimentary hotel elite status
Alternatively, choose the Venture X Business if you:
- Prefer simplicity with flat-rate rewards and straightforward travel credit
- Want a lower annual fee
- Can meet the $150K spending requirement for the welcome bonus
