Amazon Prime Day 2026 is June 23–26. Get a $150 Amazon gift card and extra rewards with the right credit card

Amazon Prime Day is coming early this year. Do you have the right credit card in your wallet?

Share

For the first time in five years, Amazon's Prime Day sale will take place in June. The company evaluates Prime Day timing annually and felt that moving the event earlier in the summer was the best fit for customers this year, an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC Select.

The 2025 sale was a record-setting one, with the online retailer seeing its highest sales to date. In 2026, consumers can expect sales across a range of categories, from electronics to household essentials — even fresh groceries.

With the sale running Tuesday, June 23 through Friday, June 26, it's time to start prepping your wallet to snag the best deals. CNBC Select covers what you need to know ahead of the 2026 Prime Day sale and the rewards credit cards that can save you even more.

Amazon Prime Day 2026

When is Prime Day 2026?

On Monday, Amazon officially announced its 2026 Prime Day sale runs June 23–26.

While the company has previously shifted the dates of its Prime Day sale (the 2020 sale was moved to October and the 2021 sale shifted up to June), nine out of the 11 previous sales have taken place around the middle of July.

The standard sale length over the last couple of years has been two days. But in 2025, Prime Day doubled in length, encompassing four days. With 2025 having seen record-breaking sales, it's unsurprising that the four-day format is making a return.

Which credit card should I use at Amazon?

Prime Day offers some of the deepest discounts of the year, so odds are good you'll find something that catches your eye. If you're already planning some potential Prime Day purchases, having the right card can increase your savings just by paying with it.

Prime Visa

One of the most tried-and-true cards for Amazon shopping is the Prime Visa (see rates and fees) due to its strong, uncapped rewards rates. Prime members earn 5% cash back on all their Amazon.com purchases, on top of those made at Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and Chase Travel. Plus, you get a $150 Amazon Gift Card instantly upon approval, exclusively for Prime members. The gift card is automatically added to your Amazon account, so you can quickly take advantage of it during Prime Day.

The Prime Visa is only available to Amazon Prime members ($139 for an annual membership and $14.99 for a monthly membership) but is very rewarding for Amazon purchases.

  • High rate of return at Amazon and Whole Foods
  • Easy-to-earn welcome bonus
  • Requires an Amazon Prime membership
  • If you choose the promo APR you won't earn rewards on those purchases

Rewards

  • Earn unlimited 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and on Chase Travel purchases with an eligible Prime membership
  • Unlimited 2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare)
  • 10% back or more on a rotating selection of items and categories on Amazon.com with an eligible Prime membership
  • Unlimited 1% back on all other purchases

Balance transfer fee

Either $5 or 4% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater

If you're not sure you're going to hold onto a Prime membership for the long haul but are interested in the Prime Visa, you have options. If you get approved for the Prime Visa as a Prime member but choose not to renew your membership, the card will simply be downgraded to the Amazon Visa. This card still earns cash back at Amazon.com, just at a lower 3% rate.

Amazon Prime Store Card

If you're a Prime member but don't have perfect credit, the Amazon Prime Store Card is worth considering. As a store card, you'll only be able to use it at Amazon-owned stores, but you'll earn 5% back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market with an eligible Prime membership. It also offers an Amazon gift card instantly upon approval, albeit at a lower $60 offering.

Most notably, the Prime Store Card comes with a promotional financing offer, which can help you pay off a big Prime Day purchase over time, if needed. You can choose from three different equal monthly payment plans, all of which charge a 0% APR during the period:

  • Six months on Amazon.com purchases of $50 to $599.99
  • 12 months on Amazon.com purchases of $600 or more
  • 24 months on select Amazon.com purchases

Note, these are deferred interest plans, which means if you don't pay off the balance in full by the end of the period, you'll be charged all the interest that accrued during that time.

Citi Double Cash® Credit Card

If you shop at Amazon but not enough to warrant an entirely separate card, the Citi Double Cash® Credit Card is one of CNBC Select's go-to flat-rate cash-back cards. You'll earn up to 2% cash back — 1% when you make a purchase and 1% when you pay — and it's unlimited, meaning you don't have to worry about maximizing bonus categories.

Since the card carries a $0 annual fee, any rewards you earn are already a positive gain. You can also use Prime Day to earn the card's welcome bonus a little more quickly; there's a $200 cash back offer after you spend $1,500 on purchases in the first six months of account opening.

Is Prime Day actually worth it?

For many people, Prime Day is an opportunity to stock up on household essentials for lower-than-average prices or pull the trigger on the more expensive electronics they've been eyeing. Other people may find the sale underwhelming. A lot of it comes down to exactly what you're looking for and how deep of a discount you'd need to be convinced.

To participate in Prime Day, you need to have an Amazon Prime membership. If you're not yet a member, you can sign up for Prime for $14.99 per month or $139 per year. If you're only interested in the Prime Day sales, you can sign up for a single month and let your membership lapse if you don't feel you'd use it enough. While you'll lose your Prime benefits, you can sign up again later with little hassle.

If you want to make sure you're actually getting the best deals, I recommend using a price-tracker like camelcamelcamel. This lets you track the historical price of an item, so you can tell if a sale is truly a good deal. You can also set notifications to know when a product drops below a specific price. It even offers a browser add-on for both Firefox and Chrome, so you can check on an item without leaving the page.
