Scott Gottlieb

Scott Gottlieb, M.D., is a physician who served as the 23rd Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration from 2017 to 2019.  

He is currently a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a partner at the venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates. 

Dr. Gottlieb serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Illumina, Inc., and as a member of the boards of Pfizer, Inc., and TempusAI.  

At New Enterprise Associates, he has helped lead the firm's investments in Comanche Biopharma, National Resilience, and Xaira Therapeutics, and serves on the boards of directors of these private companies. 

Previously, Dr. Gottlieb served as the FDA's Deputy Commissioner, and earlier, as a Senior Adviser to the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. 

He is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, "Uncontrolled Spread: Why COVID-19 Crushed Us" and "How We Can Defeat the Next Pandemic," as well as the forthcoming book, "The Miracle Century: Making Sense of the Cell Therapy Revolution," on the development of cancer immunotherapy. 

His articles appear widely on the pages of the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal, and he serves as a contributing editor to the Journal of the American Medical Association's Health Forum. Previously, he was a columnist for the Wall Street Journal's editorial page and a staff writer for the British Medical Journal. 

Dr. Gottlieb completed medical school and a residency in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. 

He graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in economics and currently serves on the boards of directors of Wesleyan University and the Mount Sinai Health System.
