Chase Sapphire cards are popular among travelers who are looking for lucrative rewards programs — so popular, in fact, that many Chase enthusiasts look into adding more than one Sapphire card to their wallets.
Up until recently, Chase restricted cardholders from holding both the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) and Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees) at the same time. Now that that rule has changed, here's what to know.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card packs a punch for a $95 annual fee card, offering annual travel credits, comprehensive travel protections and more.
- You can transfer rewards to all of Chase's travel partners including World of Hyatt, Southwest Rapid Rewards and many more
- Long list of travel and shopping protections
- $50 annual Chase Travel hotel credit
- Has an annual fee
- Requires a high credit score

Who can open a Chase Sapphire card?
When Chase introduced the new Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business in June 2025, the bank also made changes to other aspects of the Sapphire line, including the ability to own both personal consumer cards.
Previously, cardmembers were limited to one of either the Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve and needed to wait four years in between receiving Sapphire card welcome bonuses, if they ended up downgrading their Sapphire card for another. While the old requirements are out, new ones are in:
As of June 2025, you can hold both the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve cards, however, eligibility for bonuses will be based on factors such as previously earned bonuses, the number of cards opened and closed, among others.
The cards' product pages also have a statement saying that the cardmember bonuses may not be available if you have any other personal Sapphire cards open, previously had the card or already received the card's bonus before.
Cardholders of the Sapphire Reserve for Business (the only business card in the Sapphire line) will still be able to qualify for consumer Sapphire cards and their respective bonuses.
