Supporters have chalked messages of solidarity outside Anthropic headquarters in San Francisco and Claude has surged to #1 on Apple's app store following Anthropic's refusal to cooperate with the Pentagon's demand for unrestricted military use of its AI. Hours after the Trump administration labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk, OpenAI struck its own deal with the Defense Department, claiming similar safeguards. Sidewalk messages urging caution also appeared outside OpenAI's headquarters.
