2025: The year that the robotaxi went mainstream with Waymo leading the pack

Alphabet's Waymo scaled up in 2025 and leads the American robotaxi market by far, while Baidu’s Apollo Go dominated in China. In San Francisco, Zoox, Tesla and Waymo are all revving up their offerings, though Waymo is the only one there that provides driverless rides in a widely available commercial service. After more than a decade of promises from CEO Elon Musk, Tesla finally launched a Robotaxi app, but its ride-hail cars still have human supervisors on board ready to take over the wheel.
