Why some GOP members of Congress support enhanced ACA tax credits

Democrats have made extending enhanced ACA tax credits a central demand the shutdown impasse in Washington. Those credits for middle-class enrollees expire at the end of the year. With nearly 7.5 million Americans set to lose those credits for 2026, according to the Urban Institute, more GOP members of Congress are starting to voice their support for an extension because their constituents will feel the pain of losing them.
