How fast food got so expensive

Sticker shock is making customers think twice about their favorite fast-food chains. McDonald's and Yum Brands, which owns KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, missed analyst estimates in their 2024 first-quarter earnings. The limited-service restaurant category saw prices rise more than 46% over the course of the past decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Experts say that increasing labor costs are the primary driver.
