
Greg Abel
Vice Chair of non-insurance operations at Berkshire HathawayGreg Abel currently serves as vice chair of Berkshire Hathaway's non-insurance operations. In May 2025, the Berkshire board of directors unanimously voted to promote Abel to CEO effective Jan. 1. 2026.
Abel was named to the Berkshire board in 2018. He first joined the company when Warren Buffett's firm struck a deal for a controlling stake in MidAmerican Energy, where Abel was an executive, in 1999. He later served as the CEO of that company, which was renamed Berkshire Hathaway Energy. While Abel is no longer CEO of the energy company, he retains a chair title at Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
As Berkshire's vice chair of non-insurance operations, Abel has had oversight of a portfolio of companies that includes Oriental Trading, See's Candies, Benjamin Moore and Fruit of the Loom.
