CNBC Poll: Does College Cost Too Much?

Much like the current TV commercial, your child may be ecstatic about being accepted to attend a top college, but you're stunned by the costs.

According to the College Board, a student attending college in the 2010-2011 school year $40,500 is paying about $40,500. The cost for an in-state student at a public college is about half that.

For many Americans, that's equivalent to a year's worth of mortgage payments.
